Day-Care-Kids-Playing

Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the midst of them, and said, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”                                   Matthew 18: 2-5

Normally RIPC operates a 5-star child care ministry Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 5:30PM. The child care center is closed during the pandemic to support the health and safety of our children and families and of our early childhood educators.  Licensed to care for 12 infants and toddlers, our priority is to serve children of high school parents, foster parents, those with a history of domestic violence, and those with disabilities and developmental delays.  For this ministry to exist, our tiny fellowship wrote a comprehensive amendment to the county zoning code, organizing lobbying for its passage well before the church was chartered.  This ministry has been making a difference in the lives of the youngest at-risk children and their families since 1991. It is the oldest 5-star center in Dare County.

Child Care Mission

The mission of Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church’s child care ministry is to touch lives with love that nurtures and heals

  • By providing high quality child care for infants and toddlers who need specialized care to promote their optimal development,
  • By supporting their parents, connecting them with an array of community-based services, and providing scholarship assistance for those who cannot afford the full cost of care, and
  • By serving as a lab setting for high school programs to train future childcare workers and parents.

What You Can Do

  • Contact current Director Ann Riffle (473-6356) to volunteer to read a story, rock a child, or help improve the play yard as an outdoor learning center,
  • Leave items in the Child Care Box in The Gathering Place to contribute basic household items, birthday and holiday party favors, and consumable craft supplies for toddlers,
  • Donate to the Child Care Ministry to assist those who cannot afford the full cost of care,
  • Join in praying thanks for the privilege of our childcare ministry

for Ann, Marisol, Ana and Ashly, who provide nurturing care on behalf of the church,

for the families who entrust their children to our care, and

for each child sent to us and special in the eyes of God!
